Today is National Sorry Day. It is a day where all may come together and reflect as we share a vision of healing for the Stolen Generations and their communities.
This year marks the 20th anniversary since the tabling of the Bringing them Home Report. The report acknowledged that 'Indigenous children had been forcibly separated from their families and communities since the very first days of the European occupation of Australia' by governments and missionaries.
While we may never completely reverse the consequences of separation, today we strive for a future where we are all met with equal social, political and legal rights. We strive to mend the communities that were broken by this period in history, and we strive to ensure that we all acknowledge the impact of the policies of forcible removal on Australia's indigenous populations.
